In a subacute study, daily dermal application of 50 mg/kg body weight of Bromophos for 5 and 10 days, resulted in high inhibition of the serum cholinesterase and brain acetylcholinesterase, the former being more marked which was reversible after 10 or 15 days of post-exposure period.

1595894 Kumaran S, Tran-Minh C: Determination of organophosphorous and carbamate insecticides by flow injection analysis. Anal Biochem. 1992 Jan;200(1):187-94.

A flow injection system, incorporating an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) single bead string reactor (SBSR), for the determination of some organophosphorous (azinphos-ethyl, azinphos-methyl, bromophos-methyl, dichlorovos, fenitrothion, malathion, paraoxon, parathion-ethyl and parathion-methyl) and carbamate insecticides (carbofuran and carbaryl) is presented.

Bromophos (Bp) and ethylbromophos (EBp) are two structurally homologous organophosphorus insecticides (OP) which show a 24-fold difference in their toxicity to the laboratory rat (LD50--2215 and 91 mg/kg b.w., respectively).
Bromoxon (Bo) and ethylbromoxon (EBo) were greater inhibitors of rat hepatic CaE than brain acetylcholinesterase (AChE) with IC50 values at nanomolar and picomolar levels, respectively.

No F1 larval progeny from the following crossings were appreciably more resistant than their parents to these chemicals: R x B--bromophos ethyl and fenthion; B x M--carbaryl, chlorfenvinphos, chlorpyrifos, diazinon, dimethoate, ethion, fenthion and formothion; M x R--chlorfenvinphos, diazinon, dimethoate, ethion, formothion.
F1 adult progeny of B x M and R x M crossings exhibited the incompletely recessive mutant-type decreased brain acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity common to strains B, M and R, thus satisfying the test for allelism.

Z-50 and Z-51 penetrate in therapeutic doses the striated muscles rather weakly. 24 hrs after these compounds were given, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity was inhibited in motor end-plates in about 30%, and in muscle fibres infected with T. spiralis larvae in about 60-70%.
