12529543 | Fos M, Proano K, Alabadi D, Nuez F, Carbonell J, Garcia-Martinez JL: Polyamine metabolism is altered in unpollinated parthenocarpic pat-2 tomato ovaries. Plant Physiol. 2003 Jan;131(1):359-66. Transcript levels of genes encoding ODC and spermidine synthase were also higher in MA/pat-2. Facultative parthenocarpy induced by the recessive mutation pat-2 in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) depends on gibberellins (GAs) and is associated with changes in GA content in unpollinated ovaries. |

10944107 | Hanzawa Y, Takahashi T, Michael AJ, Burtin D, Long D, Pineiro M, Coupland G, Komeda Y: ACAULIS5, an Arabidopsis gene required for stem elongation, encodes a spermine synthase. EMBO J. 2000 Aug 15;19(16):4248-56. Here we show that the Arabidopsis: ACAULIS5 (ACL5) gene, whose inactivation causes a defect in the elongation of stem internodes by reducing cell expansion, encodes a protein that shares sequence similarity with the polyamine biosynthetic enzymes spermidine synthase and spermine synthase. The results of the experiments showed that polyamines play an essential role in promotion of internode elongation through cell expansion in Arabidopsis: We discuss the relationships to plant growth regulators such as auxin and gibberellins that have related functions. |
