J Chromatogr A. 2009 Jul 31;1216(31):5800-6. Epub 2009 Jun 13.

For both methods, high extraction yields were achieved, in detail 71% (metalaxyl) till 105% (linuron) for MASE and 52% (ethiofencarb) till 77% (prometryne) for SPE (C18).

An interlaboratory study was conducted to assess the suitability of C18 solid-phase extraction disks to retain and ship different pesticides from water samples.
The highest recovery from deionized or surface water using shipped disks was obtained for cyanazine (> 97%), followed by metalaxyl (> 96%), and atrazine (> 92%).

19071262 D'Archivio AA, Fanelli M, Mazzeo P, Ruggieri F: Comparison of different sorbents for multiresidue solid-phase extraction of 16 pesticides from groundwater coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography. Talanta. 2007 Jan 15;71(1):25-30. Epub 2006 Apr 18.

The compounds analysed were: aldicarb, atrazine, desethylatrazine, desysopropylatrazine, carbofuran, 2,4-D, dicloran, fenitrothion, iprodione, linuron, metalaxyl, metazachlor, phenmedipham, procymidone, simazine and vinclozolin.
Five different SPE sorbents, C (18) bonded silica (Isolute SPE C18 (EC)), graphitised carbon black (Superclean Envi-Carb), highly cross-linked polystyrene-divinylbenzene (Lichrolut EN), divinylbenzene-N-vinylpyrrolidone (Oasis HLB) and surface modified styrene-divinylbenzene (Strata X), were compared.

The optimised extraction protocol resulted in a reliable MISPE method suitable for HPLC analysis (stationary phase: Cromolith Performance C18 column, 100 mm x 4.6 mm; mobile phase: acetonitrile-water (3:2, v/v), flow-rate: 1.00 ml/min; detection 270 nm).
It was selective for pyrimethanil and the related pyrimidinic fungicides cyprodinil and mepanipyrim, while the non-pyrimidinic fungicides benalaxyl, chlozolinate, furalaxyl, iprodione, metalaxyl, nuarimol, procymidone and vinclozolin were not extracted.

Gas chromatography with electron capture detector (ECD), nitrogen-phosphorus detector (NPD), and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) was used to identify 36 pesticides, widely used to control various pest and diseases in vegetables, in water after a preconcentration step on C18 cartridges.
The most frequently encountered pesticides were endosulfan sulfate and metalaxyl, whereas the pesticide found at the highest concentration was fenamiphos.
