10052898 | Maesaki S, Marichal P, Hossain MA, Sanglard D, Vanden Bossche H, Kohno S: Synergic effects of tactolimus and azole antifungal agents against azole-resistant Candida albican strains. J Antimicrob Chemother. 1998 Dec;42(6):747-53. The CDR1-expressing resistant strain C26 accumulated less itraconazole than the CaMDR-expressing resistant strain C40 or the azole-sensitive strain B2630. The addition of sodium azide, an electron-transport chain inhibitor, increased the intracellular accumulation of itraconazole only in the C26 strain, and not in the C40 or B2630 strains. |

11766100 | Yang HC, Mikami Y, Imai T, Taguchi H, Nishimura K, Miyaji M, Branchini ML: Extrusion of fluorescein by multidrug-resistant Candida albicans. Mycoses. 2001 Nov;44(9-10):368-74. There was no significant difference in the accumulation of calcein AM between MDR cells and drug-susceptible cells of C. albicans even with sodium azide, suggesting that calcein AM may not be associated with the CDR1-gene-related multidrug efflux system of C. albicans. However, a structurally related prefluorochrome derivative, fluorescein (FDA), was shown to be extruded by the CDR1 mRNA-overexpressing yeast cells. |
