1596476 | Cote MF, Sirois E, Doillon CJ: In vitro contraction rate of collagen in sponge-shape matrices. J Biomater Sci Polym Ed. 1992;3(4):301-13. Connective tissue substitute can be made of collagen sponge-shaped matrice which is reconstituted by freeze-drying a collagen dispersion. In the present study, collagen dispersions made of collagen fibrils with a D-staggered pattern were submitted to the following treatments: (1) cyanamide or glutaraldehyde was introduced during the dispersion step followed by the manufacture of sponges; (2) uncrosslinked sponges were exposed to vapor; or (3) uncrosslinked and crosslinked sponges were severely dehydrated. |

Scanning Microsc. 1989 Dec;3(4):1183-97; discussion 1197-200. Reconstituted type I collagen was processed into fibers which were subsequently severely dehydrated and cyanamide cross-linked. |

Prostheses were fabricated by the alignment of 200 reconstituted type-I collagen fibers (60 microns in diameter) and the embedding of the fibers within a collagen matrix. Dehydrothermal-cyanamide crosslinked collagen fibers were completely degraded by 8 weeks. |
