Positively charged, water soluble cis/trans-[PtCl (2)(piperazine)(Am1)] (where Am1 = NH (3), n-butylamine, isopropylamine, 4-picoline, piperidine, and piperazine) has significant cytotoxic activity against cisplatin resistant ovarian cancer cells.
Altogether, the results reported here suggest that combination of positively charged ligands with a trans-Pt (II) Cl (2) center may lead to the discovery of platinum complexes that are able to circumvent cisplatin resistance.

We have evaluated the cytotoxic properties against the protozoan Leishmania infantum of four water soluble cationic trans-Pt (II) Cl (2) compounds containing as inert groups NH3 and piperazine (1), 4-picoline and piperazine (2), n-butylamine and piperazine (3), and NH3 and 4-piperidino-piperidine (4).

The reaction of mononuclear octahedral [Fe (III)(H (3) ntb) Cl (2)] ClO (4), 1, with 3 equiv of sec-butylamine in methanol led to the formation of mononuclear cis-dimethoxo octahedral Fe (III)(H (2) ntb)(OMe)(2), 2.

Quenching of the emission of [PtF (28) TPP] by oxygen, alcohol, catechol, and butylamine reveals that [PtF (28) TPP] is an oxidatively robust material with medium-sensitive photoluminescence properties.
The absorption spectrum of [PtF (28) TPP] in CH (2) Cl (2) displays a near-UV Soret band (B) at 383 nm (epsilon = 2.85 x 10 (5) dm (3) mol (-1) cm (-1)) and two visible Q (1,0) and Q (0,0) bands at 501 (epsilon = 1.45 x 10 (4) dm (3) mol (-1) cm (-1)) and 533 (epsilon = 1.36 x 10 (4) dm (3) mol (-1) cm (-1)) nm, respectively.
