The antioxidant potential was confirmed with the non-enzymatic method, total radical-trapping antioxidant parameter (TRAP) assay, which showed that the Tamus communis L. extracts have a potential antioxidant activity in the same order obtained by using the reduction of cytochrome c, an enzymatic method, in which the antioxidant activity followed a decreasing order: ethyl acetate extract > chloroform extract > protein.

The results indicated that the spiral disk assembly can produce excellent retention of stationary phase for moderately polar organic-aqueous solvent systems, such as chloroform-methanol-water (4:3:2) and hexane-ethyl acetate-methanol-water (1:1:1:1) by pumping lower mobile phase from head (H) to tail (T), and upper mobile phase from tail (T) to head (H) even at a high flow-rate (8 mL/min, Sf> 70%), regardless of whether the inlet is at the inner or outer terminal of the channel.
Acceptable resolutions were achieved when it was used for the separation of peptides such as Leu-Tyr and Val-Tyr, and proteins including cytochrome c and myoglobin, lysozyme and myoglobin, and fresh chicken egg-white proteins.

Mol Pharmacol. 2008 Oct;74(4):1046-58. Epub 2008 Jun 24.

N-butylidenephthalide (BP), isolated from the chloroform extract of Angelica sinensis, has been examined for its antitumor effects on glioblastoma multiforme brain tumors; however, little is known about its antitumor effects on hepatocellular carcinoma cells.
Furthermore, N-butylidenephthalide-induced apoptosis seems to be related to Nur77 translocation from nucleus to cytosol, which leads to cytochrome c release and caspase-3-dependent apoptosis.

Chem Biol Interact. 2008 Jan 10;171(1):45-56. Epub 2007 Sep 1.

We are reporting first time the anticancer potential of P. longifolia leaves extract (A001) and its chloroform fraction (F002).
F002 induce apoptotic bodies formation, DNA ladder, enhanced annexin-V-FITC binding of the cells, increased sub-G (0) DNA fraction, loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (DeltaPsi (mt)), release of cytochrome c, activation of caspase-9, caspase-3, and cleavage of poly ADP ribose polymerase (PARP) in HL-60 cells.

The natural compound n-butylidenephthalide (BP), which is isolated from the chloroform extract of Angelica sinensis, has been investigated for its antitumoral effects on glioblastoma multiform (GBM) brain tumors both in vitro and in vivo.
After BP treatment in GBM 8401 cells, Nur77 translocated from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, the cytochrome c was released from the mitochondria, and caspase 3 became activated.
