8980712 | Wilson AS, Davis CD, Williams DP, Buckpitt AR, Pirmohamed M, Park BK: Characterisation of the toxic metabolite (s) of naphthalene. Toxicology. 1996 Dec 18;114(3):233-42. CYP2E1-induced rat liver microsomes increased metabolism of naphthalene by 13% compared to control microsomes with a concomitant increase in both 1-naphthol and dihydrodiol formation. |

Arch Environ Contam Toxicol. 1999 Jan;36(1):99-108. Among smokers, the subjects with c1/c2 or c2/c2 type of CYP2E1, which was determined by CYP2E1 RsaI polymorphism in 5'-flaking region, showed higher concentrations of urinary 2-naphthol than the subjects with c1/c1 type regardless of -correction (p < 0.05) and the subjects with glutathione S-transferase (GST) M1 deficient type showed higher concentrations of both urinary 1- and 2-naphthol than those with GSTM1 normal type but only without -correction (p < 0.05). Among detectable samples, the geometrical mean (GM) of urinary 1-naphthol concentration was 5.13 microg/L (geometrical standard deviation, GSD, 4.90), while the GM of urinary 2-naphthol concentration was 3.16 microg/L (GSD, 5.61). |

Pharmacol Toxicol. 1998 Feb;82(2):74-9. CYP2E1 was more induced than CYP1A1 in this organ. In contrast, this activity was enhanced in liver and particularly in lung, in which the glucuronidation of 1-naphthol and 2-hydroxybiphenyl was increased by 122 and 180%, respectively. |

Chem Biol Interact. 2001 Apr 16;134(2):167-90. In addition, expression of CYP450 apoprotein, including CYP1A, CYP2C, CYP2D, CYP2E and CYP4A, was detected in microsomes from freshly isolated PT cells by immunoblotting using specific antibodies. Activity of the phase II biotransformation enzymes GST, GGT, beta-lyase and UGT was determined with 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene, gamma-(7-amido-4-methyl- S-(1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl)- and 1-naphthol, respectively, as marker substrates. |

9134007 | Le HT, Franklin MR: Selective induction of phase II drug metabolizing enzyme activities by quinolines and isoquinolines. Chem Biol Interact. 1997 Mar 14;103(3):167-78. Rats treated with quinoline, and to a lesser extent, isoquinoline (75 mg/kg, daily for 3 days) showed induction of phase II drug metabolizing enzyme activities without inducing either cytochrome P450 concentration or CYP1A-, CYP2B-, CYP2E-, and CYP3A-selective activities. Elevations of UDP-glucuronosyltransferase activities towards 1-naphthol, and morphine elicited by quinoline (1.9- to 2.7-fold), were greater than those elicited by isoquinoline (1.4- to 1.8-fold). |

14738905 | Nebbia C, Dacasto M, Carletti M: Postnatal development of hepatic oxidative, hydrolytic and conjugative drug-metabolizing enzymes in female horses. Life Sci. 2004 Feb 13;74(13):1605-19. Accordingly, a general increasing trend was recorded in the rate of the in vitro metabolism of the substrates reported to be related to CYP2B-, CYP2E- or CYP3A, although, as detected by Western immunoblotting, only the levels of proteins recognized by anti-rat CYP3A- and CYP2B antibodies appeared to increase consistently. Also the carboxylesterases and uridindiphosphoglucuronyl-transferase (UGT) activity toward 1-naphthol displayed a similar trend, glutathione S-transferase accepting 3,4-dichloronitrobenzene as a substrate being the only enzyme activity showing an age-related decline. |
