J Biol Chem. 2006 May 26;281(21):14961-70. Epub 2006 Mar 17.

Here we show that neurotrophic FKBP ligands, such as GPI1046 and N-[methyl (ethoxycarbonyl)] cycloheximide, inhibit the calmodulin/Ca (2+) (CaM/Ca (2+))-regulated FKBP38 with up to 80-fold higher affinity than FKBP12.

In addition, nerve growth factor and cycloheximide, a protein synthesis inhibitor, completely blocked cell death.

Circ Res. 2010 Mar 25.

Effects were inhibited by actinomycin D and cycloheximide and blunted by diltiazem, calmidazolium and low extracellular Ca (2+) ([Ca (2+)] e).

This effect seems to be mediated by activation of eEF2 kinase, a calcium/calmodulin-dependent enzyme which specifically phosphorylates and blocks eEF2.
Although L-[3H] arginine uptake measured in cultured chick retina cells incubated in the presence of cycloheximide (CHX, a protein synthesis inhibitor) was inhibited approximately 75% at equilibrium, quantitative thin-layer chromatography analysis showed that free intracellular L-[3H] arginine was six times higher in CHX-treated than in control cultures.

During inhibition of protein synthesis by cycloheximide, the I (Na) increase due to bepridil was larger than the increase without cycloheximide.

19463893 Claasen AM, Guevremont D, Mason-Parker SE, Bourne K, Tate WP, Abraham WC, Williams JM: Secreted amyloid precursor protein-alpha upregulates synaptic protein synthesis by a protein kinase G-dependent mechanism. Neurosci Lett. 2009 Aug 21;460(1):92-6. Epub 2009 May 20.

This was dose-dependent and blocked completely by inhibitors of protein synthesis (cycloheximide) and of cGMP-dependent protein kinase (KT5823).
Inhibitors of calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinases (KN62) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (PD98059) partially blocked the response.

Neuron. 2008 Jul 10;59(1):70-83.

The increase in Arc/Arg3.1 translation requires eEF2K, a Ca (2+)/calmodulin-dependent kinase that binds mGluR and dissociates upon mGluR activation, whereupon it phosphorylates eEF2.
