18074631 Spiegelman BM: Transcriptional control of mitochondrial energy metabolism through the PGC1 coactivators. Novartis Found Symp. 2007;287:60-3; discussion 63-9.

This includes genes encoding mitochondrial proteins like SOD2, but also includes cytoplasmic proteins such as catalase and GPX1.
Cells lacking PGC1alpha are hypersensitive to death from oxidative stress caused by H2O2 or paraquat.

Overexpression of yqhD results in increased resistance to the reactive oxygen species-generating compounds hydrogen peroxide, paraquat, chromate, and potassium tellurite.
Expression of yqhD was also associated with changes in the concentration of intracellular peroxides and cytoplasmic protein carbonyl content and with a reduction in intracellular acrolein levels.

We used a proteomic approach to compare cytoplasmic proteins isolated from S. pyogenes wild-type strain NZ131 (serotype M49) to proteins isolated from an rgg mutant strain during the exponential and stationary phases of growth.
The rgg mutant strain was more tolerant to elevated temperature and puromycin than the wild-type strain; however, the mutant was less tolerant to paraquat.

16194229 Hochgrafe F, Mostertz J, Albrecht D, Hecker M: Fluorescence thiol modification assay: oxidatively modified proteins in Bacillus subtilis. Mol Microbiol. 2005 Oct;58(2):409-25.

In this study, we developed a fluorescence-based thiol modification assay and combined it with two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry to monitor the in vivo thiol state of cytoplasmic proteins.
To detect proteins that are particularly sensitive to oxidative stress we exposed growing B. subtilis cells to diamide, hydrogen peroxide or to the superoxide generating agent paraquat.
