Screening studies have shown that prochloraz elicits multiple mechanisms of action in vitro, as it antagonizes the androgen and the oestrogen receptor, agonizes the Ah receptor and inhibits aromatase activity.

Chemosphere. 2008 Dec;74(1):155-65. Epub 2008 Oct 5.

Eleven of the 200 pesticides (acifluorfen-methyl, bifenox, chlorpyrifos, isoxathion, quinalphos, chlorpropham, diethofencarb, propanil, diuron, linuron, and prochloraz) showed AhR-mediated transcriptional activity.

In addition cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A activities in livers were induced by prochloraz, possibly as a result of Ah receptor activation.

The pesticides iprodione, chlorpyrifos and prochloraz showed dose-dependent AhR agonistic effects in both cell lines at concentrations above 10, 1 and 1 microM, respectively.

A variety of aquatic pollutants are able to induce cytochrome P4501A (CYP1A) in fish by ligand binding to the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR).

The WAT and liver models were then treated with typical P450 inducers (rifampicin, phenobarbital, and 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin) and lipophilic pollutants (lindane, prochloraz, and chlorpyrifos), and the effects on P450 expression were studied.
The aryl hydrocarbon receptor was also present in WAT.
