The organochlorine pesticide 1,1'-(2,2,2-trichloroethylidene) bis (4-chlorobenzene) (DDT) and four structural analogues (bromopropylate, chlorobenzilate, dicofol and fenarimol) were investigated for their ability to inhibit gap junctional intercellular communication both in the Chinese hamster V79 metabolic co-operation assay and in the scrape-loading/dye-transfer assay in WB-F344 rat liver epithelial cells.

Ten chlorinated hydrocarbons (tetradifon, Chlorobenzilate, Kepone, lindane, Kelthane, toxaphene, dieldrin, hexachlorobenzene, dienochlor, and Aroclor 1254; see below) were evaluated in rats to assess agents which might selectively elevate high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (C-HDL).
The hepatic microsomal cytochrome P-450 content of animals receiving Aroclor, dieldrin, and Kepone was 67%, 56%, and 44% higher than control values (p less than 0.02), indicating probable hepatic enzyme induction.
