In the presence of model endogenous SH compounds, dithiothreitol (DTT), 1,4-dithio-L-threitol, and dithioerythritol, Ni (II) induced damage to (32) P-5'-end-labeled DNA fragments obtained from the human c-Ha-ras-1 protooncogene and the p53 tumor suppressor gene.
Sodium azide, a potent and relatively specific scavenger of (1) O (2), inhibited DNA damage by Ni (II) in the presence of DTT, whereas the sequence specificity of DNA damage was different from that obtained by (1) O (2) generating agent.

We investigated the mechanisms of DNA damage by UVA radiation (365 nm) plus fluoroquinolone antibacterials using 32P-labeled DNA fragments obtained from the human c-Ha-ras-1 proto-oncogene and the p53 tumor suppressor gene.
LFLX-induced DNA photodamage was inhibited by sodium azide and enhanced in D2O, suggesting that singlet oxygen plays the key role in the DNA damage.

In superfused, electrically stimulated rat cerebral cortex slices, chemical ischemia (CI) was induced by a 5-min treatment with the mitochondrial toxin, sodium azide (10 mM), combined with the glycolysis blocker, 2-deoxyglucose (2 mM).
Western blot analysis of p21Ras, extracellular signal-regulated protein kinases (ERK) 1/2 (p44/42), phospho-ERK1/2, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)-p38, phospho-p38, stress-activated protein kinases/c-Jun NH2-terminal protein kinases (SAPK/JNK), phospho-SAPK/JNK was carried out.
