The activity of erythrocyte superoxide dismutase SOD decreased with increasing dose of 2,4-D and 2,4-DCP, while glutathione peroxidase activity increased. 2,4-D (500 ppm) decreased the level of reduced glutathione in erythrocytes by 18% and 2,4-DCP (250 ppm) by 32%, respectively, in comparison with the controls.

Superoxide dismutase activity increased after azinphosmethyl exposure for 48 and 96 h. 2,4-D decreased the activity after 24 h while the activity remained at the same level with control after 48 h.

This study aims to investigate the effects of the plant growth regulators (PGRs) (2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid (TIBA), Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), and 2,4-dichlorofenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D)) on serum marker enzymes (aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanin aminotransferase (ALT), creatine phosphokinase (CPK), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)), antioxidant defense systems (reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione reductase (GR), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), and catalase (CAT)), and lipid peroxidation content (malondialdehyde = MDA) in various tissues of rats. 50 and 100 ppm of PGRs as drinking water were administered orally to rats (Sprague-Dawley albino) ad libitum for 25 days continuously.

Cellular viability, generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS), reduced glutathione (GSH) levels, and the activities of the antioxidant enzymes Cu/Zn-superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD), Mn-SOD, selenium-glutathione peroxidase (Se-GPx) and catalase (CAT) were measured in CGC exposed to 2,4-D and/or melatonin for 48 h.

Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was strongly stimulated by paraquat, whereas dicamba and 2,4-D were efficient only at higher concentrations.

Exposure to HX-XO or 2,4-D also elicited lipid peroxidation by elevation of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and decreased glutathione content and superoxide dismutase activity.

Aim of this study was to investigate the intensity and timing of the ROS formation, lipid peroxidation and expression of antioxidant enzymes as initial responses of calli of Sesamum prostratum (SP) against Fusarium oxysporum f. sesame crude toxin metabolite of varying concentrations. 2,4 dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D) / coconut milk combinations were found to be more efficient among different hormonal regimes (2,4 -D, 2,4-D/casein hydrosylate and 2,4-D/ coconut milk).
Increased activity of antioxidative enzymes viz., NADPH oxidase and superoxide dismutase (SOD) corroborate with the high level of ROSs, such as O2*- and H2O2.

The pro-oxidant action of the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is demonstrated in this study using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a eukaryotic experimental model.
The intensity of the EPR spectra was dependent on the concentration of herbicide tested and was consistently higher in a mutant (Deltasod1) devoid of the cytosolic CuZn-superoxide dismutase.

For this purpose, changes of antioxidant defense system enzymes; superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) activities were determined during calli formation on young apical shoots of Abies equi-trojani (Aschers et Sinten).
WPM media containing 1 mg ml (-1) BAP and 1 mg ml (-1) 2,4-D gave the best calli induction ratio (74%) between tested combinations.
