Clofibrate also increased the activities of hepatic microsomal cytochrome P-450-mediated oxidation tested, but to a lesser extent when compared with the effects of MCPA.

The effects of phenoxyacid herbicides 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) and MCPA (4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid), clofibrate, and glyphosate on hepatic and intestinal drug metabolizing enzyme activities were studied in rats intragastrically exposed for 2 weeks.
Glyphosate decreased the hepatic level of cytochrome P-450 and monooxygenase activities and the intestinal activity of aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase.

Moreover we present some significative results obtained by the use of cultured cell lines to test the herbicide MCPA.
The results obtained demonstrate that the amphibian Xenopus is a suitable indicator for induction of cytochrome P-450 by B [a] P as well as for production of DNA adducts.
