19781795 | Martyniuk CJ, Sanchez BC, Szabo NJ, Denslow ND, Sepulveda MS: Aquatic contaminants alter genes involved in neurotransmitter synthesis and gonadotropin release in largemouth bass. Aquat Toxicol. 2009 Oct 19;95(1):1-9. Epub 2009 Jun 21. Adult male largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) were injected once for a 96 h duration with control (water or oil) or with one of two doses of a single chemical to achieve the following body burdens (microg/g): atrazine (0.3 and 3.0), toxaphene (10 and 100), cadmium (CdCl (2)) (0.000067 and 0.00067), polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) 126 (0.25 and 2.5), and phenanthrene (5 and 50). Partial largemouth bass gene segments were cloned for enzymes involved in neurotransmitter (glutamic acid decarboxylase 65, GAD65; tyrosine hydroxylase) and (brain aromatase; CYP19b) synthesis for real-time PCR assays. |

17217422 | Coban A, Filipov NM: Dopaminergic toxicity associated with oral exposure to the herbicide atrazine in juvenile male C57BL/6 mice. J Neurochem. 2007 Mar;100(5):1177-87. Epub 2007 Jan 8. ATR exposure also time- and dose-dependently decreased the number of tyrosine hydroxylase-positive (TH+) dopaminergic neurons in both SNpc and VTA (with effects being slightly more prominent in SNpc), such that the decreases were most evident at 7 weeks post-cessation of exposure to ATR. |

These data indicate that both atrazine and simazine inhibit the cellular synthesis of DA mediated by the tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), and NE mediated by dopamine beta-hydroxylase (DbetaH), and, as a result, there is a partial or significant inhibition of NE release. |

Life Sci. 2003 Oct 31;73(24):3123-38. In this study we evaluated the effect of atrazine, simazine and cyanazine on the protein expression of the enzymes responsible for the synthesis of [tyrosine hydroxylase (TH)] and [dopamine-beta-hydroxylase (DbetaH)]. |
