19603180 | Yu Q, Abdallah I, Han H, Owen M, Powles S: Distinct non-target site mechanisms endow resistance to ACCase and ALS-inhibiting herbicides in multiple herbicide-resistant Lolium rigidum. Planta. 2009 Sep;230(4):713-23. Epub 2009 Jul 15. This study investigates mechanisms of multiple resistance to carboxylase (ACCase) and acetolactate synthase (ALS)-inhibiting herbicides in two Lolium rigidum populations from Australia. By using the cytochrome P450 inhibitor malathion and amitrole with ALS and ACCase herbicides, respectively, we showed that malathion reverses chlorsulfuron resistance and amitrole reverses diclofop resistance in the R population examined. |

Sci China C Life Sci. 2002 Feb;45(1):40-9. The herbicide-resistant gene als (coding Acetolactate synthase) isolated from a mutant of Arabidopsis thaliana was transferred to tissue pieces of maize multiple shoot clumps by microprojectile bombardment. Herbicide-resistant tissue and regenerants were obtained through selections with herbicide chlorsulfuron. |

Such target-site resistances have allowed foliar applications of herbicides inhibiting enol-pyruvylshikimate synthase (EPSPS) acetolactate synthase (ALS) (e.g. chlorsulfuron, imazapyr) and synthase (asulam) for Orobanche control in experimental conditions with various crops. |

In greenhouse conditions, we monitored the dynamics of the evolution of the frequencies of six herbicide-resistant mutations (acetolactate synthase, cellulose synthase, and auxin-induced target genes) in the model species Arabidopsis thaliana in a multigenerational study covering five to seven nonoverlapping generations. |
