We investigated the effects of the concentration of naphthalene sulphonic acids (NSAs) as anionic test compounds in the injected sample and of the salt additives to the mobile phase on ion-exclusion.
We studied chromatographic properties of several stationary phases intended for separations in aqueous mobile phases: a C18 column end-capped with polar hydrophilic groups, a densely bonded C8 column doubly end-capped with short alkyl groups, a short alkyl stationary phase designed to keep full pore accessibility in highly-aqueous mobile phases and a Bidentate column with "bridged" C18 groups attached to the silica hydride support.

Platelet-poor plasma was prepared, size-separated using 3kDa cut-off centrifuge filters, and derivatized with naphthalene-2-3-dicarboxaldehyde (NDA) and cyanide.
The derivatives were separated on a 2.1mm C18 column using an acetate buffer/acetonitrile gradient.

The column was designed with the inlet/outlet diameters of 54/27 mm, the column length of 150 mm and the column volume of 200 mL, and packed with the spherical C18 bonded silica with the particle size of 40-75 microm and the aperture of 11 nm.
For naphthalene, the reduced plate height was about 2.11; the maximum sample load was 2.1 mg or 1.7 mL (10% reduction of plate number), which is 20%, 16% and 19% higher than that of cylindrical one of the same length and volume.

Retention characteristics of seven silica-based chromatographic columns (Bidentate C18, Silica-hydride, Spherisorb ODS-1, Resolve C18, XTerra C18, XBridge Phenyl and Blaze C8 Polydentate) were compared.
The columns were compared and classified on the basis of the results of the classical column performance tests, retention of homologous n-alkylbenzenes over a broad composition range of aqueous-organic mobile phases and of naphthalene sulphonic acids in aqueous mobile phases without organic solvents.

C18-sphingosine 1-phosphate (C18-SPP) is a sphingolipid with important functional and structural roles in cells.
The method utilizes a commercial standard C17-sphingosine 1-phosphate (C17-SPP) derivatized with naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxaldehyde (NDA), a fluorogenic dye used to label primary amines.

The reduced plate heights of two low molecular weight compounds, naphthalene and anthracene, two peptides (lys-bradykinin and bradykinin), and four proteins, insulin, lysozyme, beta-lactoglobulin, and bovine serum albumin were measured in a wide flow rate range and analyzed on the basis of the Van Deemter equation and of modern models for its terms.

II-Endcapped monomeric C18-bonded stationary phase..
In a previous report, the heterogeneity of a non-endcapped C30-bonded stationary phase was investigated, based on the results of the measurements of the adsorption isotherms of two neutral compounds (phenol and caffeine) and two ionizable compounds (sodium naphthalene sulfonate and propranololium chloride) by frontal analysis (FA).

Effect of the surface coverage of a monomeric C18-silica stationary phase..

The difference in adsorption behavior between a conventional monomeric endcapped C18 stationary phase (3.43 micromol/m2) and an endcapped polymeric RP-Amide phase (3.31 micromol/m2) was investigated.
The adsorption isotherms of four compounds (phenol, caffeine, sodium 2-naphthalene sulfonate, and propranololium chloride) were measured by frontal analysis (FA) and the degree of heterogeneity of each phase for each solute was characterized by their adsorption energy distributions (AED), derived using the Expectation-Maximization method.
