14636698 | Long M, Laier P, Vinggaard AM, Andersen HR, Lynggaard J, Bonefeld-Jorgensen EC: Effects of currently used pesticides in the AhR-CALUX assay: comparison between the human TV101L and the rat H4IIE cell line. Toxicology. 2003 Dec 15;194(1-2):77-93. We have used the AhR-CALUX assay to investigate the AhR-mediated activity of the persistent organochlorine insecticide dieldrin and twenty-two pesticides currently used in Denmark by employing the rat H4IIE and the human TV101L hepatoma cell lines. |

18767702 | Lam JC, Murphy MB, Wang Y, Tanabe S, Giesy JP, Lam PK: Risk assessment of organohalogenated compounds in water bird eggs from South China. Environ Sci Technol. 2008 Aug 15;42(16):6296-302. Organohalogen compounds, the pesticides aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, hexachlorobenzene, mirex, Sigmachlordanes, SigmaDDTs, Sigmaheptachlors, Sigmatoxaphenes, and the industrial chemicals SigmaPCBs and SigmaPBDEs, as well as total dioxin-like equivalents (TEQH4IIE-luc), were measured in eggs of two Ardeid species, the little egret (Egretta garzetta) and black-crowned night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) from three port cities along the South China coast: Hong Kong, Xiamen, and Quanzhou. Total concentrations of dioxin-like PCBtoxic equivalents (TEQs), measured as the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR)-mediated responses of the H4IIE-luc bioassay (TEQH4IIE-luc), were greatest in Hong Kong samples. |

Dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls bind to the aryl hydrocarbon receptor, phenobarbital binds to the constitutive androstane receptor and peroxisome proliferators act via the their activated receptor alpha. |
