Bath application of GABAA and GlyR antagonists significantly reduced oscillation power in neonates (P0-P6) and juveniles (P7-P10) and increased peak integrated activity in both age groups.

In this paper, we examined the possibility that isovaline inhibits neurons by activating strychnine (Str)-sensitive glycine (A) receptors in ventrobasal thalamus.
Sagittal brain sections containing ventrobasal nuclei were prepared from P10-P15 rats.

In fact, Ca (2+) currents directly recorded from the auditory calyceal presynaptic terminal were identified as N-, P/Q-, and R-types at postnatal day 7 (P7) to P10 but became predominantly P/Q-type at P13.

In balb/c mice this stage occurs at around postnatal day 10 (P10).
Administration of strychnine elicited synchronous activity bilaterally in lumbar ventral roots.

Here, using whole cell recordings in rat cerebellar slices we demonstrated that after postnatal day 17 (> P17) glycinergic IPSCs can be readily evoked in large deep cerebellar nuclear neurons (DCNs), in the same way as in neonatal DCNs (P7-P10).
Spontaneous glycinergic IPSCs were very rare but direct presynaptic depolarization by superfusion with elevated potassium concentration or application of 4-aminopyridine consistently evoked strychnine sensitive IPSCs.

In neonatal rats (P7-P10), GlyRs exhibited a main conductance state of 100-110 pS with a mean open time of 16 ms.
The application of 1 microM gabazine blocked spontaneous or evoked inhibitory synaptic current, while the addition of 1 microM strychnine had no effect, suggesting a lack of functional glycinergic synapses on DA neurones.

We investigated in young rats (P10-P14) the effects of taurine on the neuronal responses and synaptic transmissions in the central nucleus of the inferior colliculus (ICC) with a brain slice preparation and with whole-cell patch-clamp recordings.
All these effects were reversible after washout and could be blocked by 3 microM strychnine, an antagonist of glycine receptors, but not by 10 microM bicuculline, an antagonist of GABA (A) receptors.

7752562 Akagi H, Majima T, Uchiyama M: Function and modulation of the cloned glycine receptor channels expressed in Xenopus oocytes. Jpn J Physiol. 1994;44 Suppl 2:S91-6.

The alpha 1 mRNA is abundant in the spinal cord and brain stem of mature rats whereas the alpha 2 mRNA was expressed in the tissues during the restricted period from late embryonic (E18) to early postnatal stage (P10).
Homomeric glycine receptor channels consisting of alpha 1 or alpha 2 subunit expressed in Xenopus oocytes had an ability to generate Cl- currents, and the currents were suppressed by strychnine, a selective antagonist.

Regardless of their polarity, contralaterally elicited PSPs were reversibly blocked by the glycine receptor antagonist strychnine.
Their reversal potential shifted dramatically from -21.6 +/- 17.7 mV (E18-P0) to -73.0 +/- 7.1 mV (P10).
