Cyanamide was the most effective ALDH inhibitor for increasing cinnamaldehyde induced cytotoxicity, presumably because cyanamide also inhibits microsomal ALDH. Although cinnamaldehyde was a better substrate than salicylaldehyde for ADH1, cytosolic NADH generators (e.g. xylitol) prevented salicylaldehyde and cinnamaldehyde cytotoxicity similarly. |
