We have recently reported that transferrin (Tf)-unbound gallium-67 (67Ga) may be taken up into the liver of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-treated rats.

World J Gastroenterol. 2004 Sep 1;10(17):2529-34.

METHODS: Male Wistar rats with histologically-proven cirrhosis induced with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) for 11 wk, were allocated into two groups (n = 12, each) to receive recombinant IGF-1 (2 microg/100 g.d, sc) for two weeks or vehicle.
However, these animals showed a significant diminution of cellular proliferation and a reduction of testicular transferrin expression.

The aim of this study was to investigate serum iron (SI), total iron binding capacity (TIBC), percentage transferrin saturation (SAT) and Fe status in the liver of dogs with experimentally induced hepatopathy.
In order for hepatopathy to be induced, 0.25 mL/kg body weight of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) solution was administered once daily, orally, for a 10-week period in group B dogs, while group A dogs were used as controls.
