6162485 Dohi T, Murad F: Effects of pyruvate and other metabolites on cyclic GMP levels in incubations of rat hepatocytes and kidney cortex. Biochim Biophys Acta. 1981 Feb 18;673(1):14-25.

Citrate and mepacrine inhibited soluble and particulate guanylate cyclase from rat liver while cycloserine and acetoacetate increased guanylate cyclase activity.
Rotenone, oligomycin, antimycin, dinitrophenol, KCN, and arsenate decreased GTP and ATP, basal cyclic GMP and the pyruvate effect, but did not alter cyclic AMP.

Blockade of endogenous cGMP formation with the guanylate cyclase inhibitor 1H-[1,2,4] oxadiazolo [4,3-a] quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ, 10 microM) significantly increased basal and insulin-dependent glucose transport (by 25%), whereas addition of the guanylate cyclase activator 3-(5'-hydroxymethyl-2'furyl)-1-benzylindazol (YC-1, 30 microM) produced a depression of glucose transport (by 20%).

Rotenone (0.6 mM) inhibited activity with protoporphyrin IX to a greater extent than with nitrosylhaemoglobin.

Biochem J. 2005 Feb 1;385(Pt 3):769-77.

Lack of effect of the mitochondrial poisons, rotenone and myxothiazol, suggested that nitrite reduction by components of the respiratory chain is not essential to sGC activation.

6256363 Garbers DL: The elevation of cyclic AMP concentrations in flagella-less sea urchin sperm heads. J Biol Chem. 1981 Jan 25;256(2):620-4.

The decline in ATP concentrations was slightly more rapid in the presence of rotenone, suggestive of some ATP synthetic capabilities of the isolated head preparation. 45Ca2+ uptake was increased by Nigericin elevated pH, and A23187 but was not appreciably altered by monensin.
The isolated heads contained appreciable adenylate cyclase, cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase, cyclic GMP phosphodiesterase, guanylate cyclase, cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase, and calmodulin.

Cytostatic concentrations of DETA/NO strongly inhibited respiration of PC12 cells, and specific respiratory inhibitors (rotenone, myxothiazol, or azide) caused complete cytostasis.
