Lindane stimulates the release of both glycerophosphoinositol and from phospholipids in rat renal proximal tubular cell cultures. When lindane was added to the culture medium, a correlation between the time-course profiles of glycerophosphoinositol and release was found. This suggests a pathway in which phosphatidylinositol is not directly broken down by phospholipase C, but can instead be broken down to glycerophosphoinositol and by phospholipase A enzymes. Therefore, a mechanism of action of lindane is through its effect on glycerophosphoinositol and arachidonic acid metabolism. |
